What is the Velvet Standard?
The Velvet Standard is our internal quality benchmark. It refers to the specific condition of a fish at peak freshness—the texture, flavor, and structural integrity of a catch handled with complete care from the moment it leaves the water.
Every batch is assessed against five physical indicators: eye clarity, flesh elasticity, gill condition, skin integrity, and scent.

What quality checks does it go through?
Every batch undergoes a physical inspection at our Dar es Salaam facility. Every individual shipment must meet the full standard:
Clear, bright, and slightly convex. No cloudy or sunken eyes.
Firm and elastic. Must spring back immediately when pressed.
Deep red to burgundy. Pink or brown gills are rejected.
Taut, moist, and intact with a natural metallic sheen.

How do you handle rejections?
It does not ship.
There are no exceptions. We never send substandard product. If a batch fails, we notify you immediately and source a replacement in the shortest timeframe possible.

Are there additives or preservatives?
No. Our products are natural, additive-free, and handled without chemical preservatives. We rely entirely on the integrity of our cold chain.
If a product requires chemicals to maintain quality, it has already failed our standard.
